Clayton turns 2–5 deficit into a third European Tour title
Jonny Clayton beat Niko Springer 8–6 in the 2025 Dutch Darts Championship final, turning the match with five consecutive legs.
Jonny Clayton secured his third European Tour title by beating Niko Springer 8–6 in the Dutch Darts Championship final on 25 May 2025. PDC’s report described a Rosmalen final in which Clayton repeatedly had to recover lost ground.
Five straight legs reverse the final
Clayton trailed 0–3 and 1–4 before finding himself 2–5 behind. Three consecutive legs brought him level. A 13-dart break and a 91 checkout then took him to 7–5, one leg from the title.
Springer reduced the gap before Clayton finished on double two. The five-leg sequence from 2–5 to 7–5 was the central change in the match: it turned recovery into control of the scoreline.
Another escape earlier on Finals Day
Clayton had already recovered from 1–4 against Ross Smith to win their third-round match 6–5. He subsequently defeated Danny Noppert 6–4 and Luke Humphries 7–5. His final-day run therefore contained two substantial recoveries, rather than a single late escape.
Springer reached his first European Tour final after winning three matches in the Tour Card Holder Qualifier to enter the tournament. His run carried him from qualification into a title decider, although Clayton ultimately completed the turnaround.
The next stop announced at the time
PDC listed the European Darts Open in Leverkusen for 30 May–1 June as the next event. These results and plans describe the tour in May 2025.
