Women’s World Matchplay field set: Greaves meets debutant Viinikainen
The 2025 eight-player field was confirmed from a year-long earnings list, with two major-event places available to the winner.
PDC confirmed the 2025 Women’s World Matchplay field on 9 June, with Beau Greaves drawn against debutant Kirsi Viinikainen. The event was scheduled for 27 July at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens, as Greaves sought a third consecutive title.
A year-long qualification window
The eight places came from Women’s Series earnings across 28 tournaments since the previous July. Greaves led the list on £33,800, ahead of Noa-Lynn van Leuven on £16,200.
PDC also highlighted Greaves’ ten titles in the 2025 Women’s Series, including the last five events and a 32-match winning run. Those recent results describe her form; qualification itself reflected the longer earnings window.
Four quarter-finals confirmed
- Beau Greaves v Kirsi Viinikainen
- Lisa Ashton v Robyn Byrne
- Noa-Lynn van Leuven v Lorraine Winstanley
- Fallon Sherrock v Gemma Hayter
Viinikainen and Hayter were making their debuts, drawing Greaves and Sherrock respectively. The opening round thus put newcomers alongside established title winners.
Three wins with further places at stake
The quarter-finals were best of seven legs, followed by best-of-nine semi-finals and a best-of-eleven final. Winning thresholds therefore rose from four legs to five and then six. PDC stated that the champion would receive £10,000 and places in the Grand Slam of Darts and 2025/26 World Darts Championship.
